review 1: As far as PNR goes, this one was acceptable. The commune of Maggie's Grove seems to be prime for more stories, but it's certainly not as engaging a group as those found in Kresley Cole's Immortals After Dark series.I think a lot of the problem was that Parker was an, essentially, emasculated vampire. His backstory comprised entirely of him being held captive and then depending on a witch and studying plants. He has all the time in the world, there's no reason he shouldn't study plants - it's charming - but he should have kicked a few asses or gotten into a supernatural tussle or two along the way! We don't even get to see any of the previous run ins with Terri, though they supposedly happen. Even the gay witch got into a fight, for pete's sake!He wasn't threatening in any ... moreway. He had powers, sure, but he wasn't dangerous, didn't exude authority though the author tried to put him in that role. I also don't mind a lady flexing her muscles, I encourage it, but for Amara to carry him out of the party fireman-style was just a little too much for me. Especially after years of fading into the background, I would think that much spectacle would be uncomfortable for her.Anyway, I'd read more in the series for light and quick reads on vacation or something. The bedroom scenes are at least appreciably spicy :)
review 2: I love Dana Marie Bell she writes stories for people who like to be flexible and if it isn't any indications form her previous works she is all about flexible. There wasn't any corny love triangles, there wasn't any helpless virgins that needed saving, everything was hardcore and dramatic and don't forget utterly original. Not any and everyone can come up with something like that, I mean, a vegetarian vampire? Come on, genius! less
