review 1: This book is tough to read. But it is (I feel) true to the reality of the situation. And if my religious views don't exactly line up with Mr. Walker's, I at least see how people of all faiths should be working together to prevent the exploitation of women and children.I don't like the word trafficking, though. That minimizes the problem. The problem is slavery. It is an ugly word, but that is the truth. I think maybe we have lost our capacity to call things "evil". But this it. And Walker truthfully talks about the difficulty between telling the sex slave from the sex worker."Assuming the role of the predatory client was much more difficult than I had imagined. The fact is many millions of women the world over, for a multitude of reasons, choose prostitution as a viable me... moreans of survival. While some brothels were little more than slave dens, most are made up of women from a variety of circumstances and backgrounds. Often, those who are free to come and go mix and mingle with those who have the invisible hands of coercion and deception controlling their every move."I also appreciated how real Mr. Walker was with his personal struggles, successes and failures. This is an eye-opening look into the real world of slavery, and it shows how some things that I have always stood for (like freedom of information on the internet) can also be used by others for evil. So there is a lot that needs to be thought about and a lot that needs to be done. And the church, in my opinion, should be at the forefront of doing it.
review 2: A good look at a real problem... While this book gave a first hand look at one of the worlds biggest problems (still), I have to say that I found myself very frustrated. Rescuing women and children from the plight of human trafficking is one of my deepest passions, and as such this book was a good and honest look at the problem. My frustration was in the hopelessness the author left he book with. While trafficking is not a problem that can or will be solved overnight, there are ways to work towards ending it, and I felt that these were not adequately addressed. less
