review 1: I did really enjoy this first volume of Danny Baker's autobiography. He writes like he speaks, so it's a nice easy read and you can hear Danny's voice coming through loud and clear. This is very much a recollection of times before he became a TV and Radio presenter. His happy childhood, schooldays, working in record shops, manning the reception and then writing for the NME, becoming a punk and touring with some of rock bands of the era, makes for an interesting and enjoyable book. I do like both Danny's no nonsense, no fawning, raw presenting and writing style and will certainly be reading 'Going Off Alarming' his second volume of insights and anecdotes, very soon.
review 2: His Radio show is legendary...a quick wit and dry sense of humor in abundance...this
... morefirst book up to his early 20's is a funny insight and how he ducked and dived his way to the muso mag the NME and telly with no experience but his wits alone....Could easily be a candidate for 'tall poppy' syndrome for being so openly self assured, as he confesses to being so liked through school and onwards. Arrogant? Maybe..Yet, Danny's personality pulls it off throughout his early years...The Godfather of Milton Keynes would recognize this east end 'barrow boy' who did good!...good stuff! 8/10 less
