review 1: I am a huge fan of this series of anthologies, and some years are incredible, some hit-or-miss, and others are just meh. This would be one of those meh years. However, that being said, I have never not read a single volume from this series and not been touched, had thoughts provoked, cracked up about something, or just been deeply wowed by one or two pieces that stay with me forever. This volume is no different, just not spilling over the brim. Still happy I read it.
review 2: I tried, but I don't know if I'm going to make it through this one. I can only read so many short pieces of depressing, self-indulgent high literature and commentaries on the Occupy Wallstreet movement. I mean, the writing is technically good and all, but I'm just not finding most of thi... mores to be enjoyable enough to be worth the effort. Call me a philistine if you must, but then I'll just assume you're one of those weirdos who thinks Brideshead Revisited is just as enjoyable as Downton Abby. less
