review 1: Ulin's affirms my own argument about the reading lives of so many students. Quite frankly, many do not read -- okay, that's not true. They read: text messages, status updates, YouTube titles, etc. But they rarely engage in deep reading. Among other things in this little book, David L. Ulin asserts that the reading we do online, while perhaps important, is not the same in terms of the deep thinking that we do when we engage with a book of literature. His research supports that our brains are being rewired by the reading that we do while engaged with technology, and that perhaps this is not a good thing when it comes to critical thinking. In addition, the anecdotal evidence Ulin uses to support some of his assertions, particularly the conversations and observations he has w... moreith his son, a high school student reading The Great Gatsby for his English class, resonates with the advocate in me for choice reading that leads to deep engagement and transactional experiences of the individual. Educataors should consider Ulin's argument when designing curriculum and planning instruction.I recommend this book for every English teacher, and every parent of every student.

Confiando en sus palabras, decidí comprarlo.Puedo resumir diciendo que el libro es una recopilación de ideas sobre el tema de la lectura, repleto de citas y los pensamientos consiguientes a esas citas. También el autor mezcla sus vivencias y sus experiencias, relaciones con algunos de sus familiares y conocidos; además de temas variados que rondan la idea central, temas como las redes sociales, tecnología, ciencia y medicina, política, deporte y más. Creo que podría decirse que es un tipo de monográfico un poco más (y mejor) elaborado.Recomiendo este libro a todos los que aman de la lectura y a todos los que se inician en ese fantástico mundo.
