review 1: Again, another book with an interesting story, but not well developed! I just couldn't enjoy it! The witch is so weak! Emmeline is all the time worried about go to ride with her horse and enjoy Erick's company than try to learn about her power, how to save her father and stop being abused by Mahlon. She is the damnsel waiting for her prince. By the way, the story was also very predicted, specially about who is Erick, the "gamekeeper". I won't even read the sequel. I'm done with this one.
review 2: Debbie Dee's 'The Last Witch' is the story of Emmeline, who is forced from her home by soldiers, after seeing her father beaten and her house burnt down. Emmeline has no idea of her power or that, since birth, she has been betrothed to the Crown Prince of Dolmertri, h
... moreer country's sworn enemy. She is taken to the castle, and there held prisoner by the captain of the guard, Mahlon, who wants to take her power and use it for his own evil devices. However, Emmeline, finds a secret passage in the library and meets the gamekeeper Erick, who takes her riding. Despite her impending marriage and fear for her life, Erick is now her only happiness.Although I found 'The Last Witch' predictable I really enjoyed Debbie Dee's storytelling style and read the book in one sitting. The idea of Emmeline as the last Incenaga was an original one, and I think that the author was able to balance the element of foreboding with the brewing romance.Emmeline is initially quiet, naive and weak. To survive Mahlon's attacks and Prince Weldon's advances she has to find her strength, emotionally, intellectually and magically. She is a character who the reader immediately feels sympathy for as she is unaware of her plight and she is is the one we are supporting as the book near's its conclusion.Debbie Dee also portrays her evil characters well. When the reader meets Mahlon at Emmeline's cottage we know he is to be feared due to his threatening tone. He is also the first male to use violence against Emmeline and we receive warnings about him from other sources. The author imagines her fantasy world vividly for her reader, from the castle, to the clothes, to the festival and woods, and even the pub! I was completely involved in this story and disappointed at its end.I think this would appeal to fans of YA fantasy/pararomance and I look forward to reading more of Debbie Dee's books. less
