review 1: What a disappointment this book turned out to be. I downloaded the audio on a whim, because the blurb sounded intriguing and why not? Unfortunately, it was a let-down. I don't really have any complaints about the writing, though I found myself completely uninterested in Benedicte's entire story line. Seriously, I barely paid attention to these chapters. My disappointment lies in how the book ended - what started as a cool premise ended up being just the most boring ending ever. I don't need fantasy or supernatural elements in books to make me like them (there were hints of ghosts here), but this book explained everything away in the most pedestrian way possible. The main storyline was also resolved in a completely boring manner. Just not an exciting ... moreread.
review 2: For the first third or so of the book, I would have rated this at about 2.5 to 3 because of the over effort to be prosaic, and because it seemed too much a copycat of Rebecca. Also, the placidity of Eve got on my nerves. But I'm glad I stuck with it because once the book hits its stride, there are a few twists and surprises, it comes together well, and the main character grows a bit more backbone. In the end I couldn't put it down and for me that's a good book. less

Great depth of character and plot, lots of twists and turns kept me interested right until the end.
