review 1: Has Special Agent Bella Jordan bit off more than she can handle? When her past collides with the present, danger lurks ever closer...DiAnn Mills gets the action started and your mind active from the first pages. Her characters have a mind and will of their own. Numerous conflicts lead to deadly consequences as the death toll rises. DiAnn’s descriptions are vivid and easy to imagine. The dialogue flows well and adds depth to the unseen action. With a bit of creative imagination you can read between the lines and into closed hearts. West Texas, dry, arid and beautiful is a great setting to awaken your senses. The twists, turns and double takes lead Bella down a path of unexpected personal danger. Is the mysterious Spider Rock Treasure connected? Could memories of her dark ... morepast bring needed answers? Intertwined with danger, disappointment, and dead ends romance, unlikely as it seems, blooms under impossible circumstances. Will Bella open her heart or protect it?Pull on your boots, cinch up your saddle, and hold on tight, as you gallop into this bold adventure!...
review 2: Plot: Three men seeking a legendary treasure are found dead on Carr Sullivan's land...after he denied them access. Bella Jordan, FBI special agent is called in to investigate because one of their most wanted may be involved. As she investigates Bella is confronted by her traumatic past. She must also face new feelings and a new faith in God seems to be the only way to handle it all.Why I picked it up: Not sure why I put this on my to-read list, but I suspect it was the plot point about treasure hunting. Why I kept reading: It was hard to keep reading because the dialogue didn't seem realistic to me - rather forced. Also, it bugged me that Bella kept telling Carr (while he was still a suspect) things she was learn about the case. It all required too much suspension of disbelief for me. However, by the time I no longer wanted to read this book, I was too far involved to quit. In the end: I would like to have had the treasure hunting aspect developed. Glad I finished, but I probably won't read anymore in this series. less
