review 1: You Can't Go To School Naked is a humorous book about a boy who wants to go to school naked because he does not like clothes, but his parents insist that he cannot! They tell him all of the things he can't do naked, like play in the snow, slide on the baseball field, or hold his things in his pockets. They tell him there will be consequences if he does not wear clothes to school, so the boy comes up with a better idea.I love this book because I felt like it kept me engaged the whole time because of it's humor, so I can only imagine what it would do for a child. I found the illustrations to be as appropriate as they could be in order to show the boy being naked and doing activities at school. I thought that this may create some immaturity and giggles if it were to be read i... moren class, but it could always be read to an individual child at home as well!I thought the originality and creativity of this book to be it's best asset. The pictures and text went together very well and I loved how the text rhymed because I always feel like this keeps young children far more interested. I also believe that rhyming makes it easier and more enjoyable for a child to read on their own.
review 2: You Can't Go to School Naked, written by Dianne Billstrom and illustrated by Don Kilpatrick, is a cute tale about a little boy who refuses to wear clothes. He would rather go to school naked than wear them. His parents begin to tell them all of the horrible things that might happen if he went to school naked. His parents reminded him he wouldn't have pockets to hold toys and things, he might get a sun burn all over and be confused as a tomato, or he might freeze in the winter and catch the flu. Playing at recess could also be a problem. If he went to slide into a base during baseball or slide down a hot slide, he would hurt his bottom! So as his parents tucked him in for the night, all of those possibilities ran through his head. The next morning as he got ready for school, he made a decision that made everyone happy. Stories with silly content such as this really gets the laughter flowing. Going to school naked is an absurd topic, but could happen. The message goes beyond just wearing clothes. It could be interpreted as eating your vegetables or cleaning your room. There is always ways to make something that is dull and boring more exciting. This is something young children can relate to. The author did an excellent job with the flow of the text. Creative and unique, Billstorm made a rhythmic flux that adds a little more fun to the story. Words like slime and French-fried are silly vocabulary but easily entertain any audience. I also found it interesting that whenever there was conversational text throughout the story, it was italicized. I haven't seen this done before, however, this text stood out which helped me differentiate between conversations and normal descriptions. She also exaggerated her content that allowed the reader to side with the parents. When she compares a tragic possibility to something a young reader would understand, their concern for the boy intensifies. Like on page 15, when the boy could get sunburned. She wrote that he might be confused for a tomato and get placed in a vegetable stew! What could be more frightening than getting put into some stew all because you didn't want to wear clothes. less

Fun book! Hilarious....students sometimes become embarrassed at the word "naked," but cool book.

I think they could have done a better job of describing why you shouldn't show private parts.
