Fall 2017 TBR

Hi all,

By the time this post goes up, I’ll be well into my (hopefully) final fall semester as an undergrad, which is wild. Right now, it’s still August, and I’m busy planning the next three months. The good news – my queue of posts is, clearly, going well so far! No hiatus in sight!

This fall’s TBR is quite small, as each school year is busier and busier. Between my required reading for classes and book club, I don’t have much time for my own recreational reading. The good news is as an English major and book club president, much of my necessary reading overlaps into recreational reading.

The first book on my list is my current read, A Dance with Dragons. Because the ASOIAF books take me so long to read, I’ve been trying to power through this by reading a chapter a day. With its massive size, it will take me forever that way, but it’s better than nothing at all!

As I said, required reading and recreational reading luckily overlap at times, and Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs is an example of that. This is a required text for my Intro to Literary and Cultural Theory class, but I’ve had my eye on it for a few years now, so I have an academic excuse to read it! Plus, I get to analyze, discuss, and write about it for a grade! One of my favorite things about my major is getting graded to do something I love to do anyway.

Another overlap book is Men Explain Things to Me by Rebecca Solnit. Throughout the last few years, I’ve become increasingly interested in personal essays and memoirs. This has been on my TBR list for a while, and it’s required reading for my Creative Nonfiction class, so I get to dive in, again, for a grade. Shoutout to my profs for requiring such good texts – it makes class 1000 times more enjoyable.

Between my novels for classes and my book club reads, this will definitely be a busy few months for reading, which means there will be lots of reviews coming your way in the future. Check out some of my previous reviews here if you’d like. Thanks for reading!
