review 1: Without a doubt, my favorite book of the year! This book is a treasure, which reads like historical fiction, but uses fact to take us through the life of the woman believed to be the model behind the world’s most famous painting, Lisa Gherardini. Through her painstaking research and seamless writing, Dianne takes us through a magic portal and plants readers into Florence in the 1400s, allowing us to see life from Gherardini’s eyes. I came to understand Mona Lisa as not just the woman behind the most famous smile in the world, but as a wife and a mother — una donna vera, a real woman — to use Dianne's term. This book has many layers to it, and provides tremendous insight into the artists, events and influential families which shaped the Renaissance. I truly savored ... moreevery single page. So good I read it twice!
review 2: Review “Mona Lisa’ A Life Discovered By Dianne Hales Honestly this is the first book I read, and I really enjoy reading it. I knew about Lisa and Leonardo da Vinci from school books but never in great details as the author provides in this book. I really like the way Dianne revels what she discovered about the characters of this book. This is a great book if you are intrigued by the “Mona Lisa” as Dianne Hales, was. During the research needed to put together this book Dianne Hales went to lived where once Lisa lived. Diane walked some of the streets as once Lisa did. She also spends many hours trying to compile as much information as she could. The“Mona Lisa” One of most fascinating paintings’ of Leonardo da Vinci Who made it one of the word’s recognizable images. Also one thing that would make in wonder about Lisa’s marriage is how cans a fifteen year old girl? would marry a man twice her age but at that time it wasn’t unusual. Lisa marries a wealthy man from Florence Francesco, del Giocondo who was a skill merchant. Lisa Gherardine una “donna vera” a real woman which was suitable to her role as a married woman. Hales discovered that Leonardo had refused commissions from popes. Kings, and princesses and instead he decided, to paint Lisa’s portrait in 1503. One thing I wish the author should have included is more illustrations. The only illustration she include is one of a map which is on the inside cover. Even though the author did not include photos of Leonardo Da Vinci, and other characters I still enjoyed her book and I will recommended to my family and friends to read it because it is well written. I can wait to start reading La Bella Lingua from the same author. less
