review 1: Needless to say, I'm reading this book translated into English! DONE!!! Laugh out loud funny. Christine, a 45 yr old divorcee, along with her friend Dorothea, goes to Nordeney Island off the NW coast of Germany to help her friend Marlene renovate and open a restaurant. Unfortunately, Christine's mother, who is having knee surgery, talks Christine into taking her father along. Chaos ensues as her father Heinz sticks his nose into everything and believes he knows the right way to do everything. With some other retirees he tries to take over the renovation process while trying to tun herd on his daughter and her friends. I happily recommend this book.
review 2: I did enjoy this book about Christine but there are some bizarre characters; If you find you... morer parents annoying at times I suggest reading this as they can't possibly be as bad as Christine's father Heinz! The story is about Christine going to help her friend with renovating her guest house and finding herself stuck with taking her crazy father as her mother is in hospital. Christine finds herself in a budding romance but this is hindered by interference from Heinz and various other eccentric characters. I wouldn't say this is a terribly believable story - at least I'm pretty sure that most Germans don't behave like Heinz - but if you can get past that, this is a fun read and something a bit different. I say give it a try if you want a fun, light hearted read. less
