review 1: Hot-shot pilot Will is sent out by the Captain of the spaceship Arillia to find an engineer for their ship. When he meets Tab and hires him neither of them has an idea of the adventures that await them. Will is a young man who has been mistreated and sexually abused and those experiences have affected him deeply. Tab is a mature strong-willed man and while they are almost immediately attracted to each other they are like oil and water, and are continually butting heads. Their conflicts continue until Tab is able to convince Will that he is not out to hurt him.Once they get together, they are explosively hot. While Will has not had good experiences with sex Tab is determined to show him that it's not all about pain and being used. Just as things start to get good for them a... morend Will is starting to enjoy their encounters the ship is attacked by pirates. The Arillia and her crew lose the battle with the pirates resulting in the Captain's death, the crew members including Tab are injured and Will is taken and once again sexually assaulted. Will and Tab along with the other crew members manage to get the ship in working order again. It's much harder for Will to recover from the attack but eventually Tab is able to once again demonstrate to him that a sexual relationship is something that can be good for both of the people involved and doesn't have to be about pain and degradation. This was a great book, it grabbed me from beginning to end. Both Will and Tab are wonderfully written characters and what I loved is that they are so different yet compliment each other beautifully. The pain and suffering that Will has gone through in the past and then once again when they are attacked is dealt with in a very realistic way, there is no quick overnight cure rather Will and Tab both have to work hard to overcome their problems. It's not always easy, and they do have many arguments and fights, but in the end manage to find a way to get through and find their own happy ending.
review 2: Story was okay and everything started out great. Looked like the typical sci-fi romance I enjoy so I don't quite know how it went downhill but it did for me when Will, the sexy pilot, turned into a girly character. Tab, the engineer Will hired on, was alright but even he lost his attractiveness because I couldn't get past his attraction for Will which was superficial, to say the least. The MM romances that I like always have that emotional intensity as well as tension between the protagonists. In Freighter Flights, the tension was missing and the two guys were just squabbling like adolescents, one of them a girl.I'm going to read James Buchanan's Twice the Cowboy, Twice the Ride and see how it compares. Never read him before but I do have a few of his titles on my TBR list. less
