review 1: Life is extremely busy so it took me awhile to finish this book. In some respects it was more or less what I was expecting while in others it wasn't at all. After reading many of the other reviews I wondered if I completely missed the mark on general opinion of this book, but I didn't mind it at all. Norman gave me the creeps, and I wanted to slap some sense into Johnny, which is a good thing if you can evoke a response from the readers like that. This is a book, in my opinion, that you shouldn't judge by its cover, or others opinions for that matter. Give it a try.
review 2: Well, this is definitely not a book for those who prefer it simple and romantic. It doesn't lack emotions, but it's not a book for a truly sensible and romantic soul. It is different if
... more not complicated for one or another reason, I might even claim that ALL characters are a bit disturbed. Sex plays big part in the book but it's not pornographic. It seems almost to me that any "nice" emotion in this book is almost unimportant and felt like patronizing the reador. Well at least it felt like that to me... ;) The author uses a lot of references, metaphors and a bit of sarcasm. Sometimes it's hard to follow the information flow or the storyline, because most of the "action" is written as pictures/metaphors. That's why you might take your time to read this book, reread one thing or another. What I find personally interesting, the environment of the protagonists is calm and restrained, while the main characters themselves are loud, crazy and unstable. They are not perfect, they are anti-heroes in every form. They are both like two cars about to crash. So it's like a car accident: you can't look away, you don't know how to stop them, and hell sure you don't want to stand in between when they about to destroy each other. I liked it, it was not perfect but it aren't suppose to be. For me (as English is not my native language) it was not always easy but hell. Don't I love challenges. For once I have to mention the cover: great job there! I think I've seen enough torsos for my life lol less
