review 1: When i picked this book up at the Educational Library, The big bold print,"I MUST HAVE BOBO!" popped out at me instantly. I started reading the book and instantly fell love with the breezy, interesting illistrations. In the book, Willy wakes up to find that he has lost his stuffed monkey,BoBo. He searches all around the house throughout the book frantically looking for BoBo because he cant live without him. His Cat,Earl, seems to love to steal BoBo and that is nicely illistrated throughout the entire book. In the end, Willy gets BoBo back, however, Earl sneaks away with him once again while Willy is sleeping. I believe this would have been a good candidate for the Caldecott award because the illistrations are very simple yet very helpful for younger students to follow alon... moreg with while being told the story. Also, working at a daycare, i can see myself reading this book to my kids because they love cats and monkeys and to act them out whenever we read about them. its also fun to say "where do you guys think bobo is?!" and have them guess places then turn the page and reveal where he is. This book i would say would be suitable for 2 to 3 year olds.
review 2: You read the product description and think, wow, that sounds awesome. You see the aggregate score and thing, this book must be awesome! Well, I found it to be pretty lame. It was what it said it was, but in a totally disappointing way. I am not a huge fan of cats, which should have played into this story well. I love monkeys, etc., so this book had every chance of success. In the end, the mix of the simplicity, and relative bleh nature of the story-story telling was too much (or too little) for me. It didn't measure up to the hype, or many of its contemporaries.Grab it at the library, I wouldn't buy it. less
