review 1: While this wasn't the best-written book I've ever read, it was well written, which is impressive considering English isn't the author's first language. I found it repetitive at times, which I didn't like, but overall I really enjoyed the book. It was fascinating learning about the author's upbringing in the Soviet Union, and especially so because her experience contrasted so completely with what I learned about the Soviet Union in Farley Mowat's book "Sibir", which I read not long before. I plan on reading her second book to see how her American dream turns out!

H... moreer use of details, humor, and turn of phrase in her storytelling paint a clear image of her life and the impact of living under communism for both her and her parents' generation. Intriguing, nice story flow and enticing me to read more about Russia. less
