review 1: I've never heard of Elinor Lipman. I happened to be browsing through the Popular Library section at the L.A. Central Library and this caught my eye. Well, Lipman is a wonderful essayist. Her pen is quick and light. Her essays are intelligent and humorous. This is a great introduction to the woman. I do not know if I will move onto her fiction - as I seem not to be able to deal with any fiction these days - but if there are more Lipman essays floating around out there I will be sure to grab them.
review 2: I started reading essay collections last year, starting with Anne Fadiman's anthology "Ex Libris." I enjoyed that quite a lot, and I equally enjoyed "I Can't Complain." The collection is several columns that Lipman wrote for different papers, and covers
... moretopics such as childhood, one of her novels being adapted into a movie, watching the Masters Tournament in memory of her deceased husband, and more. Anyone who enjoys the simplicities of life, gentle humor, and quick reads should enjoy "I Can't Complain." less

Meh. Didn't even get 1/3 of the way through it. Better novelist than essayist.

Personal essays that made me want to go back and read a few more of her novels.

3 1/2 - 4 stars. Audio book is in her own voice. I like her.
