review 1: I was searching for a book to listen to while walking in the mornings and could not have made a better selection. Ms. Lipman herself narrates, which makes her (All Too) personal essays even more so. I have enjoyed her fiction and found it to be so rooted in truth as to sometimes forget, so I knew I would like hearing her relay her stories directly to me.While she is a generation ahead of me, I found myself relating on many levels. As a women, a mother, a wife and reader. I recenlty became a published author myself and didn't expect her to address the anxieties of novelists and was pleasantly surprised to be listening to her advice.I really enjoyed the essays, the format and hearing the emotion in the author's own voice.Recommend.

... moreection of essays from one of my favorite novelists; my only minor complaint is that they were almost all quite short, so she didn't have much time to get into any real depth in any of them. Also, I had read many of them before in magazines and The New York Times. But her voice is delightful and I particularly enjoyed the pieces in which she wrote about her writing process. The essays about her parents were also among my favorites. less

Amusing; a good book to pick up and read one chapter at a time, in any order.

By turns amusing and sad, a wonderful read overall. Highly recommended.
