review 1: I originally purchased this book because the author was a college roommate of my daughter, but quickly I was caught in the spell of this dystopian tale. Part Jim Jones charismatic cult leader, and part Running Out of Time by Margaret Peterson Haddix, this story of a sensitive young girl waking up to the danger of her sheltered world, is a page turner that will have you rushing to finish. One word of warning, there is some profanity and sex so I would not suggest this for students younger than high school.
review 2: I received this book free to review from Netgalley. I found it to be very unpleasant subject matter. There is a teen romance, but there is also lots of darkness, ugliness and violence. The kind of ugly things that happen in this book are very clos... moree to the kind of awful things that really do happen in the world and I just find it too horrid to lighten it up with a teen romance and try to make it a nice story. less
