review 1: I just couldn’t leave this book alone and had to keep reading even with bleary little eyes. I found it completely laugh out loud hilarious, as I spend time in France and yes, the phone signal is awful! The descriptions of the fresh baguette and hotdogs alone made me a little homesick to go back again as the writer has brought to life the freshness of the local produce at the market and I felt as though I was with the main character as she bought fresh flowers in the shop. Some characters are very animated, larger than life and in charge, while some are quietly in the background waiting for their part to blossom. Yet the very true subtlety and complexity in Luc is beautifully written. The life story of each character allows for the writer to seamlessly stitch the story lin... morees together like an expensive Chanel suit. This book makes you roll your eyes, laugh, cry (yes, tissues will be required for both laughter and sorrow), shout at the situation and sigh in disbelief!! Yet it also deals very gently with several very strong issues and looks at them fearlessly, without allowing them to overpower the characters or the storyline. This was so cleverly and quietly done that it was only when I had finished the book and was contemplating it in its entirety that I fully saw how well it had been captured. As I read I could literally feel the Parisian sunshine on my skin. I could feel the dust in the warm air as I zipped along on the scooter. This book became a part of me and it so very rarely happens to me that I treasure the book (file I guess, these days! But I somehow cannot help referring to something that has moved me as a book not just a piece of encryption). These are rare occasions. Bravo Mme Watson!Reviewed by Noemie T. review 2: Kissing My Old Life au Revoir by Eliza Watson was a fun read for me and I really enjoyed it. It’s great for summer reading when you’re looking for a book that will just take you away from your own life for a bit and even better when it takes you to Paris! Of course I was attracted to the book because of the setting but once I started reading I was completely drawn in by the story and the people inhabiting its pages.Samantha is an event planner and most definitely a career woman which is exactly why she turns down a proposal from her boyfriend. She wants to get ahead in her company, not stay at home and have babies. Which is why she is so infuriated when she finds out that her ‘so called boyfriend’ actually didn’t recommend her for the promotion she has been coveting. However she can’t worry about that right now because she has a huge meeting to plan for her beer distributor clients. That is why we find Samantha in Paris and while there she really wants to spend a bit of time with her younger sister Libby. Libby is a free spirit who has been living in Paris for a while now but nothing could prepare Samantha for the surprise that Libby has for her. Then to top it off Libby up and disappears which leaves Samantha taking to the streets of Paris with the gorgeous Luc to find her.Meanwhile Samantha’s life is falling apart around her as she is indeed turned down for her promotion. However she’s not going to take it sitting down and neither are her friends. What starts out as a simple thing on Facebook soon blossoms into something that her company can’t ignore. Yet Samantha has to wonder if it’s all really worth it … because sometimes the simplest things can make us the most happy. Kissing My Old Life au Revoir is about love, romance, family, and finding what truly makes you happy in life! less
