Tricks Of The Ton
review 1: This is book 3 in the Tricks of the Ton series.Having lost the respect of the Ton, Andrew Clifton has been hiding out in Scotland until the scandal has blown over. Unfortunately, he gets a letter from his mother saying there is trouble on his estate. As Andrew makes his way home, he encounters two men that appear to be after him. Trying to get away from them, he jumps a hedge and literally throws himself at Katie Moore.Always enjoying the horse farm to society life, Katie enjoys her life without mingling with the Ton. Having been injured in an accident while riding her horse, she has shied away from having anything to do with them since the accident. But when it soon become apparent that Andrew's horse needs her tender care, she slowly makes her way back into her former l... moreife.Having decided that marriage was not the life for her, Katie never imagined that a Lord would show up at her doorstep and intrigue her enough to consider changing her mind. Andrew is just as intrigued and does everything in his power to spend time with Katie. What will happen when Andrew finds out that someone in Katie's family is the one causing so much trouble on his estate? Can their blossoming romance survive or will it die before it really has a chance to begin? In the other stories in the series, Andrew is pretty much an @$$, so it was nice to see someone put him in his place and have him take notice and change. He was always looking for the perfect wife and he definitely didn't find it in Katie. But even with all of Katie's imperfections, Andrew can't seem to keep away from her. They both decided that this "thing" between them would only last until Andrew's horse was well enough to travel, but would that be enough for either of them?I really liked Katie and hated how her family had treated her since her mother ran off. Her father definitely had some making up to do!! I loved her independence but she still have a very vulnerable side which made me like her even more.I really hope that Michels continues with this series as I would hate to not visit these characters again. Thanks go to Sourcebooks Casablanca via NetGalley for a copy of the book in exchange of an honest review.
review 2: How to Lose a Lord in 10 Days or less by Elizabeth Michels is a great read. Tricks of the Ton book three is good as a stand alone as well as read with the series. Reading it as part of the series has its benefits of knowing their pasts ahead of time instead of reading brief explanations of it through out the book; but since it does have some explaining it fills you in enough to understand. I loved the story, it is a sweet story of the two most unlikely people falling in love. The characters are fun and witty, my favorite, and both scared and stubborn of moving past the past.Anthony Clifton, Lord Amberstall is as proper as proper can get. He has run a successful horse breeding stable since he was ten, but after an embarrassing accident he saw all his hard work go down the drain. He ran off to Scotland to a friend's estate there and their he has stayed for several years. Now on his way back to London and then his estates all because of an urgent message from his mother asking him to come home for some nefarious plot his neighbor is planning to steal his stables. Along the way he realizes he is being followed. Running from the men his horse goes lame, injured from a jump he should have made the horse jump. In the process he also almost kills a young woman and thoroughly demolishes her pottery wheel. Katie Moore has lived on her own in the gatekeeper's cottage since her mother's disappearance as a young girl. Her father taking it out on her and all because she looks like her mother, Katie henceforth kept her distance from her father and his house. Katie lacked all the social graces of the Ton preferring to spend all time in the stable, after an accident over a year ago where she serious injured herself falling off a horse she a little gun-shy to get back on, playing up on her injured leg and not going anywhere near the stables. But when some hoity-toity Lord lands into her life and believes that shooting his horse is the only answer she intercedes and save the horse.Anthony stranded and an unwilling guest is at first appalled by her lack of manners, decorum only seeing her in breeches the first couple of days and her lack of proper anything. He soon realizes he fixates on her because he is fascinated with her. The beautiful woman who preferred her pants over dresses and stables to ballrooms seemed to be the perfect woman for him even if he didn't realize it right away. But her family connections to his problematic neighbor can ruin it all. Katie when faced with heartbreak and a life alone finally is able to stand up to her father and finally face her fear of horses in order to save her happiness. I really recommend this series, you see both Anthony and Katie in the first two books and it's nice to see two people who are so different and the yet the so similar finally find love with each other. less
