Templeton Twins
review 1: Cute story of the Templeton Twins, John and Abby, and their professor/inventor father. The twins are kidnapped by a disgruntled student of their father's and it's up to them to figure out a way to escape. The reluctant narrator was fun...snarky and a little rude (kids will love him) and the illustrations were great - very mad scientist-y. Each chapter ended with a quiz....Sample question: True or False (circle one): this is the best book I have ever read TSee what I mean...chuckles.
review 2: This is the first book in The Templeton Twin series. There is at least one other book in the series. It is unclear if there will be more.I'd like to say that if you enjoyed "The Series of Unfortunate Events" by Lemony Snicket, that you might enjoy these too, but I am not
... more sure that is true. While this book has several similarities, it almost feels like it is trying to hard to be like the other, and in that regard it fails miserably. [The author clearly loves Lemony Snicket and even dedicates the second book in this series to him.] My biggest complaint is the Narrator.Oh my! The Narrator is just too over the top for me. At the end of each section is a list of questions. They are made to look like a discussion guide. But most of the questions are complete nonsense, and their goal seems to be to make the Narrator feel better. Of course, some may find this ironic and humorous. I didn't like how often the Narrator came across as condescending. Again, some may just find this funny. But the story is interesting. If you like twins, there are many. And if you like books with characters that have crazy names, this is a great one for you. There are Dean D. Dean and Dan D. Dean for starters. This is also a great book if you enjoy solving puzzles. There are lots of amazing illustrations throughout the book. And if you are a book nerd, you will love the attention to detail in headers and footers and titles. less
