review 1: This book is a terrific mix of graphic novel and real time photos of one man's journey into war-torn Afghanistan. It is told from the perspective of an outsider traveling with doctors who help anyone in need. Their journey is amazing as they travel on foot through the mountains to get to their desolate destination. The journey itself is grueling and takes weeks. An amazing story from start to finish.
review 2: A very powerful story. Guibert and Didier provide insight into the culture of Afghanistan in the mid-1980s when this country was at war with the USSR. ... moret story from Didier's perspective as well--his personal insights, struggles, and mistakes. This is an astounding graphic novel that is made even more effective by the inclusion of hundreds of photographs taken by Didier. The story is funny, tragic, stressful, uplifting, and challenging. less

Not my cup of tea. Blending of graphic novel and photographs is an interesting concept, however.
