review 1: Having read Standish (another of Erastes' novels), I was a little reluctant to pick this one up. I was not in the mood for another unnecessarily angsy, frustrating, and compulsively vague story about people who just have no idea how to be happy...but luckily this was not like that. =D I think the short length is really appropriate to this story. It didn't feel rushed, as novellas often do, and the scenarios seemed surprisingly realistic. This is the first historical novel I've read that did not take place in an English speaking setting (England, Scotland, America, etc.), and I thought that might deter me, but I liked it a lot. Although, I must admit, I refused to wrap my mind visually around the time setting (Second half of the 19th century), because I refused to "see" eit... moreher hero with a mustache or those God-awful mutton chop sideburns that men wore at that time, LOL.
review 2: Bohemia 1866 ...well at least we know where this moder gay romance was set. It did not matter anyway. My pervert followers there were not many hot sexual scenes, there were plot. Oh yes plot which stole our guilty pleasure away and put us under the suffering of trying to flow with the plot line. Two brave soldiers in sodomite unfriendly environment decided to fuck it all and resigned in the middle of the campaign and do..well they did not thing past resignation. It almost happened when one got hit in the head and became nice case of selective amnesia aka did not remember to have regular sexual intercourses with other and real fun started. They ended together that was obvious from the begining of unreal and very rushed story. less
