review 1: This book Block 24 is about the relationships between sisters, and the closeness that only sisters can fully comprehend. The story goes back & forth between two different sets of sisters, one present day & the other during the time of the Holocaust. Natalie & Julia are two sisters that are not very close and live very different lives. Natalie is career driven and Julia is a film student making a documentary of her Grandmother Bubbe's life as a Jewish woman during the Holocaust.Avagail & Adina are inseparable sisters, both victims of the Holocaust in the same block, Block 24. This story takes you back in time to the days of the devastating Holocaust and the terrible life that Jewish people experienced.I have been to a Holocaust museum & I have read many books on the subjec... moret, although it is devastatingly sad, it does intrigue me. The diary of Anne Frank was one that left such an impression on me. Both sets of sisters experience things in life where they need each more and depend on that relationship to get them thru the difficult times. I don't have a sister, but I can only imagine how close two women can be growing up together and always looking out for the other. Avagail & Adina have the most beautiful sisterly love, what a great lifeline to have.
review 2: This book wasn't what I expected. But oh, I loved it. Even though it kept punching me in the heart..over and over again. While I've never never been fond of multiple POV's, this was done incredibly well. It's a collision of past and present and weaved so effortlessly, the transition between characters weren't jarring at all.Definitely recommend but be warned...this isn't fluff. less
