review 1: I felt a little strange reading a prayer journal from a 21 year old Flannery O'Connor. Personally, I would never desire that anyone publish a journal I wrote at that age. But I figured if it was published, it must have been deemed significant and worthwhile for the general public to read. However, even as a Flannery O'Connor fan, I found very little of interest. There are some excerpts that would have been good to publish online, but I don't know if this warranted a full publication. This was NOT written with the intent of publication and probably should have stayed that way. My low rating do not reflect my feelings toward O'Connor's writing in any way, but is focused on the project itself.
review 2: While I have mixed feelings about reading another's diary o
... morer correspondence, I must admit that it was delightfully refreshing to sit in a young Flannery O'Connor's head for a while. She's hilarious and honest, seeking to be great and yet wanting to be a vessel for something greater. While this was clearly never intended for publication and I admit feeling guilt on intruding into another's private thoughts, I'm grateful for snippets like this: "Today I have proved myself a glutton—for Scotch oatmeal cookies and erotic thought. There is nothing left to say of me." less

A heart felt and honest exploration of the heart of an amazing author early in her career.

An intimate look at O'Connor's heart. She was a wrestler with angels. Very lovely book.

O'Connor provides a glimpse of a different way to engage in relationship with our Lord.
