review 1: 3.5 stars. There's a very interesting essay on how urban fantasy came to be by George R. R. Martin at the beginning of the collection. The stories themselves are mostly good. My favorites were: Hungry Heart by Simon R. Green; Hellbender by Laurie R. King; The Curious Affair of the Deodand by Lisa Tuttle; Lord John and the Plague of Zombies by Diana Gabaldon; In Red, With Pearls by Patricia Briggs; and The Adakian Eagle by Bradley Denton.
review 2: I read this book mainly for the Charlaine Harris story, and finished the anthology wanting to read more from some of the authors. Some of the stories were better than others. I particularly liked the stories from Lisa Tuttle, Diana Gabaldon, and Carrie Vaughn. Joe Lansdale's contribution was quite creepy. And the
... morelast story from Bradley Denton was entertaining mainly for the inclusion of a character of particular interest to me right now. less

The stories by my favorite authors were good, but I skipped over most of the others.
