review 1: Lots of great one-liners, but definitely lacking the insight of his later books. Reading this book is a lot like watching his TV show RED EYE--you'll have a good time, just don't expect to learn anything. In THE BIBLE OF UNSPEAKABLE TRUTHS, Gutfeld may have some legitimate points to make, but it's impossible to know when he's actually being serious. Taken purely as comedy, though, the book is fairly entertaining--and I certainly can't think of any other Fox News personality who jokes about being a serial killer and molesting his "houseboys." His laid-back, frat-boy humor makes for an especially refreshing counterpoint to the uptightness of guys like Bill O'Reilly and Sean Hannity, though I'd prefer he lay off all the personal attacks on celebrities. I mean, what could... more be lazier than cracking jokes about people like Rosie O'Donnell, Paris Hilton, and Lindsay Lohan? Just as it would probably be more appropriate for RED EYE to air on Comedy Central, so should THE BIBLE OF UNSPEAKABLE TRUTHS be shelved in the humor section next to Dennis Miller's latest compilation of rants. If you are looking for something with some depth, try one of Gutfeld's more recent books, like THE JOY OF HATE.
review 2: Host of nightly show, "Redeye"...humorous read on everything from politics, to social etiquettes, to rants...just a little of everything and difficult to really now down one overwhelming theme of the book. But the author demonstrates and enormous amount of wit and sarcasm into his humor and makes for a lot of laughs and interesting perspectives on observations and minutia of the day. In full disclosure, the Greg Gutfeld is admittedly a conservative and that lens is fully evident in his writing and shared views in the book. And although I personally agree with most of his side of the aisle going in, also admittedly, I don't feel that there is a slant that makes the book more or less enjoyable to read because of this. It seems more a book for fans of wit and sarcasm than anything with a political agenda. Recommended, for sure. less
