review 1: In the book Three Cups of Tea by Greg Mortenson and David Oliver Relin, the purpose of the book is to expand the reader’s knowledge by teaching the reader about Greg Mortenson’s journey from glancing at children taking classes outside to seeing a finished school. Greg Mortenson was at first attempting to climb K2, but things seemed to take a turn for the worst when he got lost. However, Greg comes across a small village named Korphe, and is greeted by the chief leader, Haji Ali. Then, it might have been Greg’s dehydration or the chief leader’s tea, but immediately after he took a seat, he decides to build a school for the village of Korphe. This book is an interesting memoir that informs the reader about how each brick joins together and builds a school. I adore t... morehis book due to the fact that it is not just informing the reader about Greg’s adventures, but Mortenson’s intricate wording like, "If you really want to change a culture to empower women improve basic hygiene and health care and fight high rates of infant mortality the answer is to educate girls,"really inspires you to make a difference, as well. I would recommend this book to a friends because it is important to know about the struggle of third-world countries, and not to only know about events happening in America or effecting America.
review 2: When I first picked this book I thought it wouldn't be interesting. It is a true story about a man who is determined to help build schools in a remote part of Afghanistan. It was interesting to see how people live without modern technology. It's amazing what some kids have to go through everyday just to go to school without the necessary school supplies. I would highly recommend this book to a classmate. It's amazing how one man could help make a difference. Overall this book was very interesting. less
