review 1: Interesting concept and as she repeatedly states, everyone's happiness project would be different. In common with other reviewers, I didn't actually 'like' the character of the author, but all credit to her for presenting herself honestly and looking for ways to improve. Google "Happiness Project" followed by the name of your closest city - you may find all sorts of interesting related workshops happening.
review 2: I have had this book for a few years-- bought it in an airport, I believe. Started it once and could not get into it. Well, I really loved it this time around. This is not a book you need to read from cover to cover, and you certainly don't need an immense amount of concentration to get through it. Each chapter focuses on a month with a particular f
... moreocus on one area of growth in the realm of happiness. Since Rubin is a stay-at-home writer with a very solid two-income family to support her, there were many opportunities for her to do things that happened during the day, cost some money-- or that would take a few days like an art class to push her boundaries. But the point is not to do everything she did but to learn from her experiences how it felt to try to do things in new ways and branch out in new areas.I am really working on being a better person in all areas of my life right now so that is probably why this book rang true to me-- and it is motivating me to make some changes in my life. Rubin is very honest about her own issues-- some of which I can relate to, some not. I loved that she was flexible in what she did-- how she would try something that many happiness gurus recommended and find it just didn't work for her-- or she would find a way to modify a task or activity to better suit her needs or her temperament or the amount of time she had in the day. She has some handy charts in the back with tips on different areas of improvement. You can email her to get your own kit to start your own project.I feel like something good will come from anyone reading this book. less

Self-indulgent musings; Rubin should stick to writing biography.

Really good ideas. I couldn't find them to put into my own life.
