As the cliche goes, Through the Woods is a case of style over substance.
The book is a collection of scary stories with a bit of a fairy tale edge. As such they don’t frighten or shock. To be honest the stories are ok verging on the decent but they aren’t anything special. I read the whole thing in 20 minutes and nothing really struck me.
However the artwork is AMAZING!! tons of detail, swerving lines and a couple that are etched in my brain, but since the stories are not strong then the illustrations lose a lot of their power, which is a pity. Rather than buy, just borrow.
