review 1: This book was pretty good for an author's first novel. I like the world that she created (parallel to our world) but some parts felt reminiscent of Harry potter (living in a castle, going to classes to learn your powers). I'm not sure I love the main character and I'm realllllly confused about the love triangle (or if there even is one). I was totally into liking Caleb in the beginning and then all of a sudden she's in love with Terrence. I kept wondering when Caleb returns... And he didn't? What's that about? Are we all supposed to like Terrence now? Anyway, the romance thing bugged but it might be enough to get me to read the next book, to find out what's going on there!
review 2: I really enjoyed the book, really it was great. Just a bit rushed. I didn't ... morefeel any connection AT ALL between Julia and Terrence, which totally sucks. Neither did I really feel anything between Julia and Caleb. I'm a total romantic so I was really disappointed that there was like little detail about the "love triangle" and not ONCE did Ostler describe any of Julias' kisses or went very deep into how Julia 'fell for Terrence'. Other than that I found this book fascinating! I like how everyone has their own 'werecat' instead of everyone being able to transform into the same animal. I feel really bad for Julia when it comes to her mom. I've never read a book where the mom doesn't even care about her daughter let alone one that she hasn't seen in many years. As for Camilla... Julia needs to grow a stronger backbone cause' I cannot believe she just closed her eyes waiting to be attacked!!! Ugh, GO HOME CAMILLA NO ONE LIKES YOU ANYWAY! less
