review 1: Jade(the main character) was in her bath tub and woke up choking on water and a mermaid tail. After what had happened that day this was by far the most unreal and worst thing to happen to her. After her dad helping her out of the tub he tells Jade why she turned into a mermaid. Jade's mom was a mermaid but jade's mom drowned so if she was mermaid how did she drown? Jade already didn't fit in but know, this just made it worst. Jade really wants to tell her friend Cory but jade's dad wont let her, he says that they should wait. Jade keeps blowing Cory off because Jade just wants to be alone. One of the days that Jade was by her self she saw a shimmering light in the water and had ringing in her ears. Jade got closer and she saw her mom, her mom alive and a mermaid. Throu... moreghout the book Jade tries to free her mom from the freshies (fresh water mermaids that are outlaws). The only way Jade can free her and her mom is to wait until the boat gate opens. After they get out Jade goes back to being a human and her mom goes to find a tidal pool so she change into a mermaid.
review 2: A good, fast-paced middle-grade novel about (whee!) mermaids. I am a huge mermaid fan and this book had an interesting take on them to be sure. A lot of mermaids, a little puberty stuff, and boys. A.K.A. the trifecta of a good older kids' chapter book. The pacing was a little quick which made things hard to follow, but it wasn't all bad. A solid "liked" from me, though ten-year-old me would've loved the heck out of it. less
