review 2: I'm pretty conflicted about this book. I think the subject matter is extremely interesting, but it seemed like the end really glossed over some pretty importan
... moret themes - Helene's reunion/restarted relationship with Eunice and Helene's coming to terms with the effect of the coup on her life - without much resolution. In that way, the end of the book felt extremely anti-climactic and superficial to me. But perhaps that shouldn't be surprising, since Helene says throughout the book that she always dealt with the tough stuff in life by glossing over it and focusing on the superficial. The books really lacked emotional connection for me, overall. less
