review 1: This was really not a good book, yet still utterly compelling. It read like it was written by a teenager, both in terms of writing skill and in narrator maturity. It was difficult to believe I was reading the thoughts and experiences of a woman of nearly 40. Her continual "insights" into psychology and relationships were amusing in their naivete, as though she's the first person to ever question monogamy. She apparently also had little understanding of the narrow scope of her sample here. Despite these psychological insights, as well as the good looks and amazing sex skills the author repeatedly reminds us she has, she seemingly cannot stop making terrible decisions about relationships. It's a fascinating read, somewhat like watching a car wreck. Recommended for entertainm... moreent value alone.
review 2: I really loved this book. Lots of familiar locations, topics and characters. I loved the frank honesty and her style of self- and others- analysis. A great exploration of one of taboo topics and societal assumptions. I have to admit I have arrived at many of the same conclusions myself over the years so that is why perhaps the book really appealed to me as a validation of my own controversial ideas. less
