review 1: I really didn't know how I would react to this graphic novel but I've been reading more and more of them lately. It's like "a year in the life of" story. Ash is a teenage boy who is slim and feminine looking. Eu is a teenage girl who is tall and goth. You wouldn't think they would get along but they become best friends. It's a bit complicated to read, the words are hard to understand (blurry) and the page is not easy to read (for instance, do I read across the top or everything on the left side then the right side of the page?) I liked the book and am glad I read it.
review 2: This was somehow haunting and yet powerful. Somehow, it just seemed to go someplace very real and yet darkly surreal at the same time. The graphic style is superb, even to the choice of t... morehe occasional use of a font that is so obscured by lines that it is almost unreadable. The darkness, the sketchiness, the chaotic layouts, the mix of fonts,the movement of the lines all suggest the half-formed but still painful reality of teen love, lust, and sex. I really appreciate that merey didn't pull away from anything--nudity, sex, feelings, fears--but also didn't push it past the point where it might be real. I also just loved Eulalie's character--she's so tough and so tender all at the same time and was really easy for me to sympathize with. less
