review 1: This is a curiosity. It bills itself as the untold story of Brad and Angie, but it is really mostly about her, including bizarre digressions into topics of sibling incest, mental illness, and lesbianism. The author, a journalist, does some undercover work to try to determine if Angie is really just a freak pulling the wool over everyone's eyes with a carefully managed public image. No sooner does he seem poised to draw this conclusion than he bellyflops and decides that Saint Angelina is the real deal. Then, strangely enough, he claims the relationship won't last until 2011. The problem? Angie's "cobra" temper and pervasive drug use. This book is sloppily written, with a large font and liberal spacing. Poorly copyedited as well.
review 2: I purchased this book b
... moreecause I love Angelina. I must have been on glue to think this might actually be a decent or accurate portrayal of her in any way. I came away deeply offended by just about every classless insinuation and the shots taken at her character, morals, role as a mother, and as a woman. Half of the book wasn't even about her, nor was it about Brad. I found myself with jaws agape at the classless digs as to why she chose to adopt, and the timing of her choices. I know people that have adopted children from other countries, it doesn't happen overnight, and none of her adoptions did either. It took months for her to be able to bring Maddox home. She has talked about that in many interviews. I have NEVER heard her say that Zahara was an AIDS adoption, so that whole story offended the shit out of me. In its entirety, this book was no better than a stack of tabloids. It makes her father out to be someone fabulous, which I do not know if I buy. I'm sure he does love his kids, but he has an extremely odd way of showing it. I also found myself offended at the shots taken at her brother. I felt that the things that were said about Jennifer Aniston were offensive, especially the stories about what her parents are like and how she's been treated by them throughout her life and career. In all honesty, I don't feel she has anything to do with Angelina and she certainly has nothing to do with Brad any more, so I'll probably always wonder why there was so much pertaining to her in this book.If you want to learn about either of these people, either as a couple or individually, this is definitely not the book you're going to find truth in. If it was up to me, it wouldn't have even gotten the one star that it did. It doesn't deserve that much credence. less
