review 1: 3.75 stars. This book is so very unique. It's almost a diary plus the thoughts from a male brain regarding the subject of love - which I have to say as a female was rather enlightening and interesting (the author is male). I really enjoyed this boon due to it being so different and really profound throughout the majority of the book. I would have given it a solid 4 stars but didn't because toward the end the author incorporates a fairy-tale (which I liked, but it was so long that it hurt the flow of the book). Other than the fairy-tale, which I have to admit I skimmed through, I really, really liked this book a lot!
review 2: This is one of those finds you stumble upon while randomly searching through Amazon or B&N, not really looking for something to read sinc
... moree you have a pile of books sitting on your dresser due back to the library this week, but because you're avoiding the dishes in the sink begging to be washed. The cover instantly drew my eye ( Barbie and Ken in a compromising position-too funny!) and the title Broken Hearts Damaged Goods peaked my interest ( yep I've felt like that right after a string of failed relationships). Honestly I'd never heard of Jack Gunthridge before today but after finishing, I'm sure glad the dishes were forgotten. Told in alternating POV's ( Liselle's through diary entries and Jack's through creative writing assignments) BHDG is a story of two people who cling to each other after they find out Jack's GF is sleeping with his BFF, who's been dating Liselle for 6 months. Liselle and Jack decide to use each other to heal their broken hearts, but instead of it becoming sexual they become friends and a sweet romance develops. Liselle has always used sex as a way of getting close to men and it's always backfired. As soon as one man dumps her she finds herself warming another's bed. She does and says inappropriate things to initiate sex when all she Is really trying to do is feel listened to and loved. She's such a flawed character but I really liked her because she felt very real. Her insecurities were spot on to what a lot of women feel and I loved that she was honest with Jack about her past and the men she'd been with, even though she was worried she'd scare him off. Jack was a sweet character. He had zero experience at sex because his GF refused before marriage (even though she was banging his BFF ) and refused Liselle's advances because he didn't want to hurt her. His stories were funny especially the one where he explains all the reason's he couldn't kill himself. Very funny! Some scenes were of a sexual nature so if you embarrass easy be warned but I found them funny because of the awkwardness of the situations. Overall a bit of an offbeat read but I enjoyed it a lot!! less
