review 1: This book was kind of disappointing. I had it figured out by page 60. Since it was obvious that Erin was in fact Ann, I was hoping that there would be a startling revelation of WHY she was taken as the book came to an end. Aside from reuniting with both her father and mother there was no really big climax or shocking revelation. Sure, Bannon rescues her from Cutt but there is nothing particularly revealing about the scene. Also there was no closure for most of the conflicts presented in the first part of the book. Other than the Chief wanting to get his hands on the reward money, he is just someone getting in the way. Seems like he was just "dropped" into the story as a speed bump. His scenes slowed down the already slow story. The Chief didn't seem to need all the old fi... moreles if all he planned on doing was hacking bank accounts. Why was he concerned with getting them put into storage? If anything, that would draw attention to the case, which it did, conveniently. But it seemed unnecessary. The crime was before his time. He didn't care about anything but the money and nothing was resolved other than he's got an unethical side business and he'll get what's coming to him. A lot of things seemed to be put in for no apparent reason and didn't add anything to the story. There was nothing that tied up any of the plot lines that had been presented earlier in the story. Erin/Ann's abduction was apparently planned but why her? There seems to be so much potential for a great plot but without discovering a reason for it or even HOW it was pulled off, the book fell flat for me. Lots of unanswered questions. My biggest question... Why would a macho detective name a big orange Tom cat Babaloo? This was the first book I've read by this author and I might try another book.
review 2: The personalities of the two main characters, Erin and RJ, were not very well defined. We didn't learn much about them and I didn't feel any passion. As for the story line, there were too many things that did not get resolved.I expected RJ to be much hotter in the book - based on the cover. This was disappointing.I really expected to like this book because of the back cover blurb and the author but it was boring and a challenge to finish. I have no desire to read the other two books in this series. less
