review 1: My older brother, Joseph, purchased this book about 3 years ago and thought that it really helped him to have a more tough mindset. He encouraged me to read it after he had and I never really thought about it. Now that I have read it I wish that I had listened to him back then. Almost every day at basketball conditioning I think about this book when I am feeling tired and ready to quit. It really motivates me to keep pushing myself to be the greatest and toughest player I can be. I think it will help me throughout the season to keep striving to be the best in every aspect of basketball. This book is very much more than just being tough in sports. He talks about his dad and how hard he worked at his job every night even though he didn't have a "boss". He owned his own busin... moreess so he had to keep himself on task even though he had no one telling him he had to. This really reminds me of my dad. He also owns his own Optometry business. He sees patients at his office all day and then goes back to work, almost every night, after dinner. Jay talks about his dad working hard at night so that he could get ahead on the next days work. This book helps me to be tougher and to see the inspirational people in my life who show toughness everyday. I would recommend this book to everyone (except mr. Pyles because he doesn't like Jay BIlas) to read this book. I thoroughly enjoyed it and think that it will help me in many situations in my life.
review 2: As I saw this book in the library I knew I wanted to read it. I listened to Jay Bilas talk about basketball all the time. That's why I am very familiar with him and why I wanted to read this book. I love what Jay has to say about basketball and that's why I was very excited to see what he had to say about Toughness. The theme of this story is its title, toughness. It tells you and teaches you about what toughness is all about. He talks with his former college basketball coach, Coach K, about his idea of toughness and what his players do to be tough on and off the court. It really taught me a lot. As an athlete you always want to be tough at everything and this gives you an idea of what they think toughness is.The purpose of Jay writing this book was to tell athletes about toughness. Since he was a four year starter at Duke he knows a lot about being tough. He also is a lawyer. He was the perfect author for this book and was able to get his point of toughness to me clearly.I loved this book. I would encourage all athletes to read it. No matter what sport you play it will still teach you a lot. This is one of the best sports books I have ever read. less
