review 1: This is not a book to be read by someone in the middle of a full-blown mid-life crisis. Please don't get me wrong: Mr. Dunham has every right to crow about his success, as he has worked very hard to build his career. He's earned it, and I enjoy his shows immensely. However, I'm almost 55 (only a few years older than Mr. Dunham), between writing contracts, on unemployment, no assets of any kind, no job prospects or retirement savings, chock full of talent yet unable to parlay it into making a living... and I discover that Dunham has been monomaniacally pursuing his career since the age of 8. He was earning money at his craft while still in middle school; in high school, he was filming TV adverts for a Dallas car dealership. From $5/show to getting a new TransAm every few mo... morenths, the kid didn't even hit college before making a living at his art.Again, don't get me wrong. His is a tale of hard work, dedication, and persistence. My only reason for having to set it aside is because, honestly, this much undiluted, unwavering, pig-headed single-mindedness is damned hard to swallow when I look at my own rather pathetic attempts across five decades of insanely changing fortunes. It's a question of just how much "I grit my teeth and kept going" narrative that I can take at this point in my life. I'm fully aware of how pathetic this sounds, and I shouldn't be the least surprised to have people tell me that this is a foul review. In truth, it's merely indulgent and gauche, because in the long run, this book is quite a good picture of a sort of Horatio Alger rags-to-riches story... except that he wasn't impoverished, had good, loving, and supportive parents, and an amazing series of breaks, many of them self-made. I compliment him. I just really don't want to hear about it right now.WALTER: Whiny little sucker, aren't ya?ACHMED: I have a job for you. It's sort of a one-time thing, but if you like virgins in the after-life...JOSE JALAPENO: You sound even more pathetic than me, senor. I feel better now, thank you....thanks for that, fellahs. Glad I could help.PEANUT: Oh ****, Jeff infected another one! Quick, figure out how to make a buck off of it!*sighs* Yeah. Go read it. At least you'll be as nuts as the rest of us.
THEY STILL ROCK, 4 sterren! less

Worth a read if you are a fan. It was pretty funny and interesting but lagged in spots.
