review 1: I enjoyed reading Jenna' s journal style writings. It did seem a bit choppy or random, but that didn't bother me. I honestly couldn't relate to her in many ways. I am married with a large family; she is single with no kids. I live in the middle of the city, on the most industrialized road in town, and don't have a single square foot of property (apartment living); she has a pretty serious working farm on many acres. I guess I am just a country girl trapped in the city, for now. I think Jenna wrote beautifully and I enjoyed reading about her passion for living a life long forgotten in most households. Jenna is a true charachter of hard work, passion, and dreams come true!
review 2: 3.5, I love the idea of this book, but I wish the drawings and set up were real... more rather than fabricated. This book is meant to be a year-long journal of a small farm and I think it gave a nice taste though so much was left unsaid. I'd love to see someone's actual sketches from life on the farm. I also wish I liked Jenna more. I think if someone else was the storyteller I'd like the book more. A for the idea, lower grade for how I feel from other books and her blog. I wish I'd read this first so I could have a more genuine reaction unclouded by previous judgments. I didn't really like her tone at first, but I got past that as I progressed. Maybe it's just fall and winter that I don't like. An ease read, but it didn't have enough depth to feed my farm-life yen. less
