review 1: A pretty fun read. Overall great. Filled with useful advice. No one could raise chickens based solely on this book, but it has an easy style that tells you good information. And it guides you to find out more. I loved the photos and the chick diary. The week-by-week format is a terrific help for the beginner with chicks in a brooder.I did find Jenna Wodinrich's stories about her journey from fancy college kid to Idaho farmer very tedious. I didn't care the first time, I really didn't care by the forth story. I get it, you weren't born a farmer.Also, the Kindle format is awful. The layouts make no sense and it's impossible to follow. Get the print version.
review 2: I liked how this book was set up to follow 3 chicks from hatching to laying hens, it was neat t... moreo watch them grow and change. It gave step by step care and helpful tips at every stage of growth. There was a nice introduction which gives some reasons why to keep chickens, chicken history, and lists the author's top 10 breed picks with info on each. The photos throughout were very nice too! less
