review 1: Ordered this one from the library after reading about it in the Bas Bleu catalog. Excellent setting of the hospitals/docs and nurses/ambulance drivers on the W. Front in WWI. Good character development as I could picture the whole group of people whose stories made up the novel. But the end was a little too neat for my taste, though not unexpected. Hobson is Canadian and her father is a University prof who taught WWI history and wrote a book on it. So she is steeped in the subject and the era which showed. There’s a nice bibliography (fiction, non-f, poetry, memoir and web sites), a detailed glossary of terms and acronyms as well as a good interview with her father on the subject in the back of the book.
review 2: I thoroughly enjoyed this novel, the story of
... more two people's love for one another set against the devastating and terrible backdrop of the First World War - the blood-soaked, muddy fields of France. I found the choices made by the characters, and their personal narrative throughout the book, to be refreshing and interesting, and kept me turning the pages, reading the book in just one long sitting. What a pleasant surprise to reach the end of the book and realize that a sequel is in the works...too bad I have to wait six months for its release! less

Very good book, that was well researched. It was a nice perspective from a females view of WWI.

I finished this book in about three days. It was a good story, but not great.

Don't waste your time with this. It's inappropriate and not worth a penny.
