review 1: This compact graphic memoir has a fun little hook: it's a time-travel memoir! In it Fink travels back in time to meet her younger selves. What started as an opportunity to peer in on the sexier bits of her past soon turns into a quest to advise her younger self on how to avoid the mistakes that her present-day self cringingly recalls. But it doesn't take long for Jess to see that her younger selves don't want this much help. And she also comes to understand that there is value in making your own mistakes and in acknowledging that they are part of the path that lead to the present. With a somewhat sappy ending and a lettering style that was a little hard for me to look at I was worried. But the book is short, the retro-modern drawing is fun, the character evolves, and the p... moreremise was interesting enough to keep me through to the end.
review 2: Well within the first five pages Jess from the future is making out with Jess from the past, so assuming you think that is awesome, you will probably like this book. It's really short, though, and mostly surface-y, with a couple of maddening glimpses at some really heavy shit that is never returned to. So IDK, fun and light but without a lot of lasting power or really all that much to say, except: life is hard, you always think you're the asshole although you're usually not, and also it takes a really really long time to get good at sexing. less
