review 1: Personally, I don't think it's as epic as the first of the condor trilogy,but as always, Jin Yong captivates readers with his amazing prose which exudes elegance of the ancient Chinese. Unlike the eagle shooting heroes, the plot of "giant eagle and its companion" centers around the forbidden love between Yang Guo and Xiao Long nu, it's definitely a love story - packed with action(Kung Fu).
review 2: The work (well, actually the film series to be exact) that originally launched my liking history and historical fiction. Furthermore, you'll find in it poetry, fantasy (where else you can find flying human beings), philosophy, patriotism, betrayal, drama, conflicts of black & white (NOT skin color, mind you) as well as in betweens, romance, swordplays, and obvious... morely martial art.It has been adapted many times into TV series, cinema film, comic, manga, as well as video game. Strangely though, when it comes to English translation of the book, you cannot find the published one. And that is why I'll be reading the fans translation found online, to which the "I own a copy" refers. less
