review 1: A fascinating look into what it was like growing up in a conservative, fundamentalist Mormon community in the 1980's. The memoir then covers the author's struggles with her church as she discovers and embraces feminism and liberal politics while trying to reconcile it with her faith. I really enjoyed this, though I wish there were more details about her college years (the years where she discovered her new ideals). What specifically made her embrace feminism, especially at BYU? Curious.
review 2: I felt a foolish picking this book from a little free library just prior to moving half-way across the country, but I'm so glad I did. While at times the language could feel floral and sentimental, for the most part I ate this book up. I really appreciated the recent u... morenorthodox Mormon history relayed in the chapter files, as well as the author's intense personal struggle during that time in her life. There was a lot that I could relate to in the author's spiritual dilemmas. less
