review 1: I've watched all five seasons of Destination Truth, and whilst I loved the monster hunting element, I soon came to realise that what I really looked forward to in an episode was the narration of the host, Josh Gates. So you can imagine how excited I was when I logged into Facebook one morning and caught a glimpse of this cover. He'd written a book about his adventures on the show back in 2011; I bought it off Amazon without a second thought. The book arrived a few weeks later (due to being in Australia, everything takes a million years to cross the seas), and I dove right in. My hopes were answered; he was as good a writer as he was a host. This book is brilliantly written, and my only gripe is that it is too brief. You better keep writing, Mr Gates!I recommend this to anyon... moree who loves travel and foreign countries. I'm making my sceptical partner read it too, because the book focusses on the destinations and the people rather than the monsters. So now I'm surpressing the urge to take off into the desert right now, and instead forcing myself to wait for Italy next year (can't wait!!)Fantastic read, easily achieved five stars. Perfect for anytime of day or frame of mind. Great work, Josh!!
review 2: The recent book I read was Destination Truth: Memoirs of a Monster Hunter. This book is not similar to the rest of the books I read. It has a different story in every chapter you read so you could be reading the first chapter and skip ahead five and still be reading a different story. This fact made it my favorite part of the book. Also it has funny parts and stories of the adventure they took. Like if they were in peru and looking for a dragon and they would find a cute monkey, he would put that in the book. Occasionally they would put a page or two about a monster they hunted and what they found. I am a big fan of the show Destination Truth, so when they started telling stories about what was happening behind the scenes I was immediately pulled into the book. For example one page of the book talked about how a camera guy tripped and broke a two thousand dollar camera while hunting a “Chupacabra”. This book excites me in a way i’ve never felt before, this book is thrilling, unique in its own way, and there is no way to explain how much it makes me have to read it.Josh Gates would be defined in my book as a adventurist who would go to the end of the earth to get the greatest adventure he can. Josh Gates is the author of the book and the main character, also the lead man on the television show. I would recommend this book to anybody who watches the show, or anybody who is eager to read a good book, but i would highly recommend watching the show as well. less
