review 1: A lovely story read with much of a feeling of atmosphere. A mystery, an arcanian librarian with some interesting skills, some poor choices, and never knowing who to trust from one page to the next...All very human qualities in the MC, reminding me, just a smidge mind you, of Adrien English (smiles). Colin makes choices that cause you to cringe yet also be sympathetic. I love Lanyon's pacing and sense of timing, and this little bit of magical lore had some fascinating twists and turns, all with an essence of delving into irish or scottish legends of old.I enjoyed the history, magic, and lore, and thought the narrator did a wonderful job with the various castmembers. A wonderful way to spend the weekend. Highly recommended.
review 2: Entertaining, more of a myste
... morery than a romance but the mystery was interesting and took us through Scotland. I liked Colin and even though the relationship with Septimus was a bit fast, the scenes between them were good. It did take me a bit to get into this and get used to the words, since there is an element of fantasy here. But it was definitely "light" fantasy, just a bit of magic, goblins, fairies. I liked the humor of the recreated history of this world. It was like our world, but it wasn't. I'd read more if Lanyon adds to the series. less

Excellent book, full of magic and mystery. Classic Lanyon with a twist of darkness.

Fascinating world-building, but I wasn't enthralled with the romance. 3.5 stars.

Wow. My first Josh Lanyon disappointment. But not bad. Not good, but not bad.
