review 1: Drew Lawson needs to get a paper published soon in academia or his position is in jeopardy. He flies to a small town in Wyoming that claims to have the mummy of a 6th dynasty Egyptian princess. He leaves behind his domineering boyfriend that just happens to be his department head. Life will not be good for Drew if he fails to publish a paper or be back in time for his boyfriend's garden party. Things are looking good, till he finds the museum has been taken over by a reality television crew headed by Fraser Fortune. Sparks fly when Drew realizes that this brass personality with the pompous name, threatens his authentication of the princess. This a fun read, just what I need when reality gets too oppressive.
review 2: I was tickled by this story, the self-talk,
... more the characters and the off-beatness. It takes place on Halloween.Things are going poorly for Drew Lawson, Dr. Lawson, PhD in Ancient Egyptian studies. Admittedly he's a hunk, most popular professor in his department, is dating the Department Head and is leading a life of civilized and genteel interests. He must, however, check out this mummy at the dilapidated museum in the near ghost town and skim back to San Francisco to attend a garden party at the orders of his lover. Drew has a way of not making deadlines and is in dangerous territory with his boyfriend. Their relationship is taking a lot of work at the present time and Drew is feeling misunderstood and henpecked.Wrecking Drew's plans to examine the Mummy on his appointed day, Fraser Fortune and camera crew show up to film a reality show segment on this mummy, who is said to be cursed. Drew is aghast that his scholarly interest is sacrificed to a show called "The Mysterious," and he is bested when his scholarly gentility is pitted against the popularity and claims of Fraser. Eventually, he gives way to Fraser and makes his examination as a part of the TV show. This will not assist him to gain tenure or endear him to his refined boyfriend.Drew is having some revelatory thoughts about his relationship and many sexy thoughts about Fraser Fortune. A nitpicking phone call from the boyfriend closes with Drew ending that relationship with relief. In addition to these personal thoughts, Drew sights the mummy peering in the window as he and Fraser are acting on their mutual attraction. A chase ensues. Locals don't take them seriously as they seek to follow this mummy and discover what's going on. They end up back at the museum, where Drew who has had his doubts about this mummy further confirms his suspicions.Back at their hotel, Drew and Fraser enjoy a night of exceedingly fine sex. Drew has some revelations about this too.So he needs to find out more about the mummy and think about his future. He's a free man with a question and an unsettled future. You might guess what happens, but reading about it so satisfying and cheerful. Drew has never really liked finger sandwiches or garden parties that much anyway. less
